(Chloe had told him that Max was in Deerington now. He knew who Max was. Knew enough about Max and Chloe's relationship that a part of him wanted to give them some space to catch up. And then, naturally, obliterate Chloe later and tease her mercilessly.
As for actually meeting Max though...It just didn't happen right away. That's how Deerington worked sometimes. There were just so many things happening most days that it was hard to be around for some of the quieter things. And Eddie was pulling some extreme Houdini stunts as of late. After the past few months, he'd gotten into the habit of isolating himself to an unhealthy extent.
So....Truthfully, he had been a little avoidant of Max. Out of nerves, mostly. What if she thought he was super lame and then convinced Chloe to hate him? Or worse, what if she thought he was super lame and then decided to ditch Chloe? No way, Jose. Couldn't happen, right? Max was Chloe's best friend, and best friends didn't do that.
Besides, Chloe was awesome, so that meant Max had to be pretty cool too. These were the exact kind of thoughts running rampant through his head the few days after Chloe had told him about Max's arrival.
Which is precisely why it was the dead of night that had him sneaking into the kitchen for a late night snack. Just in case he ran into Max. He figured maybe snooping around for cookies at two in the morning might be a safe bet for being elusive. Or something. But some Dumb Tall Traitorous Bitch Named Chloe put the cookies too high up, which lead to Eddie dragging a chair out from the dining room (rather loudly) into the kitchen to climb aboard and do his best at getting the prized Oreoes down from the top shelf in the snack cabinet (spoiler: all their cabinets were snack cabinets.))
sometime in December when this would make sense to happen
